Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort Breaks Ground on a $7.1M Triple Waterslide and Lazy River Pool Complex

Once completed, the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort will provide their guests plenty of choices for water activities with four pools, five waterslides, a lazy river, and a pristine beach on a secluded island in the Gulf of Mexico.

Bonita Springs, Florida – May 6, 2016 - Excitement is building and construction is under way on a $7.1M triple-waterslide and lazy river pool complex at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort in Bonita Springs, FL. This full-featured pool amenity will be located on an undeveloped acre on the resort’s 26-acre campus, adjacent to an existing two-acre pool scape. The project is designed by EDSA architects with construction by Manhattan Construction. Upon completion, the new pool amenity will add to the resort’s three existing pools, two waterslides, secluded island and beach. Anticipated opening of the new pool complex to resort guests is late 2016.

“By this time next year, our guests will be plummeting down two three-story high speed waterslides, taking a fun ride on an inner-tube waterslide into the gentle currents of a lazy river, and dining on local cuisine from a rotating selection of food trucks,” said Brian Kramer, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort.

Designed by EDSA Architects, known for such resort pool designs as the Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas, and the Four Seasons Bahrain Bay, the triple waterslide and lazy river complex will have a quintessential South Florida look with a three-story Everglades lookout tower topped by a tin-roofed fishing shack. Beneath the tower is a 575-foot-long meandering lazy river pool with water hazards to drench guests along the way. Additional pool coves accommodating nearly 300 swimmers will complete the more than 249,000 gallon water scape. Surrounding the Everglades tower and the lazy river will be a forest of Southwest Florida native plants including Live Oak, Sabal Palm, and Saw Palmetto. A lushly landscaped pool deck will accommodate a large number of guests, event space and two food trucks to serve an ever-changing selection of local cuisine. The one-acre expansion to Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort’s pool amenity will increase the total pool area to three acres in size.

“EDSA is thrilled to be working with Hyatt to enhance their guest experiences with a unique amenity offering. We have jam-packed the most fun-filled excitement that can be planned for a one acre addition where visitors can relax, enjoy themselves and make memories,” said Gregg Sutton, Principal, EDSA.

Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort has contracted with Manhattan Construction to build the new pool complex. Manhattan Construction’s portfolio includes the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, the George W. Bush Presidential Center, AT&T Stadium – Home of the Dallas Cowboys, and the Hard Rock Café in Tampa. This is the latest of many projects Manhattan has performed at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort, including restaurant and retail space renovations and most recently, renovations to Camp Hyatt children’s activity camp.

“We’re excited to break ground and continue our relationship with Hyatt, helping them to add value and remain a top destination resort in Southwest Florida,” said Manhattan Senior Vice President Gordon Knapp.
